Counting Macros
If you are interested in counting your macros I would recommend downloading the MyFitnessPal app. It is very user friendly.
I have been using it on and off for years but have been using it on the regular for the past 2 years.
If you are new to tracking your food it can be overwhelming but take your time and get comfortable with it. Once you have been tracking for a while you will create your database and it will become easier as your foods will be in the app.
If you are wanting to set your macros it can be tricky. Know that I have never set my own macros, it has always been my coach who has done it for me. But here is some advice to get you started.
Track a week in the app just to see where you are at. Don’t change your eating habits just yet. See what your protein, carb and fats consumption is like on a daily basis.
After you have done this for a week look at your intake and make adjustments as you may need. Ensure you have enough protein. On average you should consume .6g-1g of protein per pound that you weigh. So if you weigh 150 lbs you should eat between 90-150g of protein a day.
Fat and carbs can be divided how you wish but I have always had a higher percentage in carbs than fats. Know that the app will also help you get started and will auto populate macros for you after you have set your goals.
Starting with this will make you very aware of what you are intaking. Maybe you are underfeeding yourself, maybe you are overfeeding yourself but never knew it. Maybe you are at the right amount of calories but your protein intake is very low. You can obtain a lot of information from just tracking what it is you eat.
