Get those steps in.

Prepping for my competition requires many aspects. I need to hit the gym, plan my food and get my steps in.

Right now I need to try to average 16,000 steps a day. You know who doesn’t want to do that many steps?? A 5 year old.

So sometimes it requires negotiation or different tactics to get her out. The other day I needed to go to Walmart so I told her she had the option to ride her bike or scooter. She was only going if she drove her car.

So off we went. I got steps in she was happy riding and the bonus was I didn’t need to carry the stuff back. We loaded up the car.

For my girls birthday’s this year, we also bought them fitness trackers. We often ask each other at night how many steps we each had. So it becomes a little competition to see who has the most. I don’t care how many they have I just want to ensure they understand that moving their bodies is important.

Being a Phys Ed teacher it saddens me how many grade 7-9 students can’t run more than 100m or are tired after a a walk around the block. I love to lead by example so I will often run with my students and when we walk I also go with them.

Teaching them at a young age that movement is important is very key to their future development.
